I got really bored the other day. I had nothing to do, just drifting around my room, listening to music and soullessly browsing the internet. I have just finished my first year at university, studying Human Biology at Manchester Met, and now, all I actually have to do is go to work at the weekends.
It dawned on me how much time I actually waste. How little I actually have to do, and so I thought I needed a project. Blogging has always appealed to me, but I could never think of anything to blog about. I have friends, who have blogs featuring their artwork and such, but I don't possess a morsel of artistic talent. Then, my mind drifted to the film "Julie and Julia" which I had watched with my flatmate Amy, about Julie Powell, who set herself the target of cooking all the recipes from Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and blogged about the process. So, a goal orientated blog seemed like it would be good, something to document some achievements, something to give me something to do in the small hours of the night which I so frequently spend pointlessly on Facebook or eBay.
I then had to set about thinking about what goal I could actually have. I have some obviously, passing my degree to a good standard, getting onto a PhD programme and whatnot, but that isn't something that you can really blog about. So, I set my mind about thinking what else I wanted to achieve, and a flutter of things came to my mind.
- I want to travel more.
- I want to read more.
- I want to save up some Money.
- I want to have new experiences.
- I want to learn the Bass.
Hang on, some of that could definitely lead way to an interesting blog. I then had to think about time scale. I am never one to do things in small measures, so, I thought - FIVE YEARS, is a decent time-scale. A long term project requiring severe dedication.
In five years time, I will be 25. I will have finished university and hopefully be enrolled completing either a Masters or a PhD. But, what else can I get done in that time? I decided to kick things off today, Tuesday June 1st 2010, halfway through the year.Project ”Life” will run from 01/06/2010 – 31/05/2015, 1826 days. With that length of time, I think I need a decent list of things to do.
Having chosen a time-scale, I think I now need to create a list. A long list of EVERYTHING I want to complete in 5 years, and some rules to go with it...
